Kawasaki Disease Awareness Team Briele 5k

Logan, OH

All proceeds will go towards Nationwide Childrens Hospital c/o Kawasaki Disease Research. We want to bring awareness of Kawasaki disease to our community. Our daughter Briele, was diagnosed at age 3 ½ months old with this disease. She was misdiagnosed 6 times before getting the correct diagnosis only a few days to late. Studies show if diagnosed with Kawasaki disease within the first 10 days it lessens the chances of long term effects. Our daughter was diagnosed on day 12 and with that she was left with aneurysms on her left and right coronary arteries and left and right coronary arteries enlarged. She has to take a half of baby aspirin daily to keep her blood thin.

Since this disease is rare the medical professionals weren't familiar with Kawasaki disease. Our daughter may have to live with the long term effects of the late diagnosis for the rest of her life. Signs and symptoms to look for are fever lasting more than 5 days, red eyes, rash all over body, red lips and tongue, swollen and red hands and feet, peeling of hands and feet, swollen lymph nodes in neck.
